Lorenz “Lorry” Land at 2022 EASA AirVenture.

Helicopter Association International (HAI) is deeply saddened to announce the loss of longtime Air Venture rotorcraft announcer Lorenz “Lorry” Land.  Lorry has been entertaining the crowds during the rotorcraft flight demonstrations on the ultralight runway for the last 15 years during Air Venture and was sometimes joined onstage by HAI President James Viola as a guest (see lower photo).

He hailed from Waukesha, WI with his wife Christine. His cheerful smile and unending humor were always a favorite of the audience.  Lorry passed away on August 1, 2022, immediately after spending the week doing what he loved—announcing at the show.  Lorry always had a passion for rotary flight and shared his enthusiasm with the crowds through his stories and interesting facts about the history of flying these amazing machines.  Lorry’s famous closing of each show was, “The sky is not the limit; it’s just the beginning!”  He will be greatly missed.

The funeral Mass for Lorry will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at St. William Catholic Church, 440 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha, WI 53188. Service details, an obituary, and memorial details are available here.
