International aircraft systems integrator and MRO provider supports OEMs in aerospace and defense sectors.
Borgomanero, Italy–based Mecaer Aviation Group (MAG) is an international provider of aircraft systems and services for the helicopter, business aviation, and general aviation markets.
The company, founded in 1995, comprises two strategic business units: the integrated aircraft systems unit, which develops actuation, flight control, and landing systems, and the aircraft services unit, which offers cabin interiors and aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO).
Integrated Aircraft Systems
MAG’s integrated aircraft systems unit focuses on the development and production of primary systems for actuation and landing. It offers a wide range of equipment for actuation and flight controls, including servo actuators, mechanical controls, and dampers. The unit also provides landing-gear system integration for both rotary and fixed-wing aircraft, including nose and main landing gears, uplocks, wheels and brakes, and steering components. The unit’s test labs measure endurance, temperature, strength, fatigue, and other performance parameters.
Aircraft Services
The aircraft services unit concentrates on the design and development, as well as maintenance and customization, of helicopter and fixed-wing cabin interiors. It offers a comprehensive range of completion, refurbishment, and MRO services to help aircraft meet specific mission requirements, from high-end VIP to air ambulance operations. The division owns proprietary systems for noise reduction and cabin management.
Cabin completion work includes designing and manufacturing interior kits and components, including monuments (cabinets, lavatories and showers, and tables); main and ancillary systems (such as lighting and electrical, environmental control, window blinds, fire protection, oxygen systems, and cargo compartment furnishings); and in-flight connectivity.
The unit’s MRO operation encompasses three main maintenance bases, two in Italy and one in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, and is EMAR (European Military Airworthiness Requirement) 145, EASA Part 145, and FAA Part 145 certified.
Company History
MAG operates under a long-term agreement between committed institutional and industrial investors. The company’s background as a system integrator traces to the merger of two historical Italian aerospace companies with OEM roots, airplane manufacturer SIAI-Marchetti, founded in 1915, and Breda Nardi, a helicopter manufacturer established in 1971. The companies that acquired these historic brands eventually became MAG.
In 2000, MAG acquired Performance LT in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, bringing landing-gear manufacturing to its portfolio in addition to a North American base. In 2007, MAG opened a base in Philadelphia to support Agusta’s American final-assembly line. That base moved to Bensalem in 2021. In 2022, MAG acquired aircraft maintenance company Euroavia to add to its MRO capabilities.
MAG holds several civil airworthiness authorizations from EASA, Transport Canada, and the FAA. The company’s customers include general aviation, corporate aviation, law enforcement, and the US and Italian government and military.
