HAI SMS Program partner provides variety of aviation risk-mitigation, safety services.

Business aviation audit company WYVERN developed and offers a variety of risk-mitigation and safety programs to aircraft operators around the world. Its services include training, consulting, certification, audits, safety tools, and memberships that provide access to considerable resources for brokers, private and commercial operators, MRO operations, flight operations leaders, and air charter operators.

While known for its business aviation focus, WYVERN, based in Nashua, New Hampshire, has worked to tailor a number of programs and services for the helicopter industry. Recently, the company joined HAI’s new Safety Management System (SMS) Program as one of four companies providing affordable and easy-to-implement SMS programs for HAI members. Recognizing that a positive and resilient safety culture is vital to organizational success, WYVERN’s mission is to facilitate this culture and help helicopter operators implement, utilize, and continually improve their SMS.

Partnership with HAI
WYVERN’s customizable SMS software, available at a discount to HAI members, is designed to help operators intuitively create and implement effective safety management systems specific to their operations. The system fuses contemporary risk-management techniques and tools with quality management features to visualize data so as to simplify an organization’s risk-management process regardless of company size or complexity.

The components of the software include:

  • Safety and quality reporting
  • FRAT/MRAT pre-operation risk analysis
  • An audit module
  • A CASS (continuing analysis and surveillance system) module
  • A management-of-change module
  • Performance monitoring/SPIs (safety performance indicators)
  • An emergency-response planning module
  • Risk-analysis, -assessment, and -mitigation tools.

Wingman Standard Certification Program
Another WYVERN product supporting the helicopter industry is the Wingman Standard certification program, which was recently recognized for significantly reducing risk in helicopter operations. Wingman operators embrace safety as a core value and, according to the company’s website, “are validated as conforming to all applicable ICAO safety standards related to commercial air transport and safety management systems.”
