The Fly Neighborly program may head off onerous rules.

Helicopter Association International (HAI) told federal regulators in a Sep. 29 letter that current policies and metrics are effective in addressing sound from aircraft operations. The association also praised the FAA for engaging the aviation industry as part of the process.

“HAI appreciates the FAA’s outreach to the industry to help build out future aircraft generated–sound policies, programs, and models,” said HAI President and CEO James Viola in the letter.

Earlier this year, the agency sought comment on its review of its current measurement system, metrics, and thresholds to evaluate their effectiveness and impact on communities in and around aircraft operations. Ultimately, the FAA will use the review and the public’s comments to inform future decision-making and policies.
