On Feb. 23, 1950, HAI—then known as the California Helicopter Association (CHA)—made its first official lobbying effort on behalf of its members, as the association sought to gain more favorable legislation and regulation for the fledgling industry. Issues of concern to members then were similar to those of today, including flight regulations, insurance, service fees, spare-parts availability, and state bills that would prohibit aerial dusting or spraying.

For the past 73 years, HAI, which began 75 years ago, on Dec. 13, 1948, has been a stalwart representative of the helicopter industry before local, state, and federal governments. From access to airspace to commonsense safety regulations, HAI WAS THERE lobbying for the helicopter industry.

Countdown to HAI’s 75th anniversary: 63 days!
