The White House has nominated Michael Whitaker to lead the FAA. Whitaker, a former FAA deputy administrator, has earned the support of Helicopter Association International (HAI) for his aviation policy expertise, dedication to safety, and efforts to incorporate new entrants into the airspace.

“Mike’s 30 years of aviation policy experience give him the knowledge and skill set to effectively lead the FAA,” says James Viola, HAI president and CEO. “I worked closely with Mike during my tenure overseeing general aviation at FAA, and from what I saw, I am confident he is the right person to lead the agency at a time when aviation—particularly vertical aviation—is evolving at such a rapid pace.”

In addition to his tenure in commercial aviation, Whitaker served as the FAA’s deputy administrator during the Obama administration. He currently works as chief operating officer at Supernal, developing electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

HAI urges the Senate to move forward with Whitaker’s nomination process quickly.
